A rare and original painting depicting the battle of 1770 in the Bay of Chesma, made by Jakob Philipp Hackert. Ideal for a collector. The sea is full of galleons with sails unfurled. In the foreground, on the left, a galleon is burning. The ships are arrayed offshore, but the battle has only just begun and the outcome is still uncertain. Near the shore the sea is slightly choppy, and the white waves break on the rocks.
The painting is on display at the Central Naval Museum, St Petersburg.
