In the foreground there is the basin with all the boats, some anchored on the shore, while others are navigating the Grand Canal. The painting depicts the Doge's Palace, the bell tower of St. Mark's, and the other buildings in the square. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1729 and was restored in 1943.
