An original and luminous view of Badminton House in the county of Gloucestershire, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Prominent is the large green lawn in front of the English country house, crossed by a carriage and peopled by a few elegantly dressed nobles (near the right-hand side). Further back Canaletto depicts the symmetrical English country house, with vegetation behind it. The hills, by contrast, are barely visible, fading into the clear sky, which has a few pink clouds. The picture, an oil on canvas, is dated 1754.
