A unique historical view of the Arch of Septimius Severus in Rome by Gaspare Vanvitelli. The scene is depicted at sunset in warm, intense colours, in a decaying Rome, as shown by the vegetation on top of the arch. Around the arch runs a beaten track with wayfarers. The arch seems abandoned to its fate.
