“The Annunciation to Saint Anne” by Giotto is a fresco forming part of the cycle of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua (early 14th century). The artwork depicts the angel announcing to Saint Anne the birth of her daughter Maria, future mother of Jesus. The scene, intimate and delicate, shows Giotto’s attention to human expression and to the rendering of space, anticipating the sensibility of the Renaissance.
