An original and luminous depiction of Alnwick Castle, perched on a small hill, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. In the foreground is the castle, with its high walls following the course of the river alongside. Scenes of everyday life are depicted on the banks. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canal painted another variant of this work.
The painting is part of a private collection.
