Publius Aelius Traianus Hadrianus, known as Hadrian (Italica, 24 January 76 – Baiae, 10 July 138), was a Roman emperor of the dynasty of the adoptive emperors, who reigned from 117 until his death.
He is considered one of the "good emperors", according to the historian Edward Gibbon. Cultured and a passionate admirer of Greek culture, he travelled throughout the empire and enhanced the provinces. He took care to improve the conditions of the soldiers and in Britain he had a fortified wall built, the famous Hadrian's Wall.
Among his most important works we should also mention the Pantheon in Rome, Hadrian's Villa at Tivoli and Hadrian's Mausoleum, later Castel Sant'Angelo.
