The artwork
Ad Parnassum is considered Paul Klee's masterpiece, created in 1932 during his teaching period at the Düsseldorf Academy. This monumental work, currently housed at the Kunstmuseum Bern in Switzerland, represents a high point in the artist's career and a masterful example of his pointillist technique.
Klee developed this work through an elaborate working process. He initially applied large squares of muted color to unprimed canvas. He then printed smaller squares, first in white and then in other diluted colors. The composition is dominated by the shape of a pyramid outlined with printed lines, creating a mosaic effect of extraordinary complexity.
