The artwork
A rare 18th-century depiction of a capriccio of a Renaissance archway of a ruined monument, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The double archway stands out, lit by the setting sun, with a woman hanging out washing above it. Beneath the archway flows a river, crossed by a boat. The two banks of the river are joined by a precarious bridge. Further to the right are the remains of a ruined palace. The sky is clear, with a few pink-tinged clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
The artwork is part of a private collection.
