They stayed for more than two months, and he painted the palaces and churches mirrored in the water.

In this canvas the Palazzo da Mula fills almost the whole space. In the upper two thirds there are two floors of pointed arched windows; below, two gondolas are drawn up side by side at an opening right on the water. The water is made of short horizontal strokes that make it shimmer. In the lower left Monet signed and dated the picture in cobalt blue.

He finished many of the Venice canvases at leisure in Giverny, at home, and exhibited them in Paris in 1912. Alice, who had died the year before, never saw them on show. The original is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

In a living room or a hallway it brings the light of the lagoon.
