The sheet, dedicated to the islands off the coast of Northumberland, combines nautical interest and antiquarian description, with compass roses, jagged coastlines and toponymic annotations that guided navigators and travelers. Holy Island (Lindisfarne), a very important medieval monastic center, and the Farne Islands, known for their navigational hazards, are presented as strategic elements of maritime control in the North Sea in the modern age.
